INTRODUCTION:

The D.Y.Patil Medical College was established in 1989 on a sprawling campus admeasuring 5.5 acres of land. The total bunt up area of the budding is 11172.0 sq. ft. The cost of the building is Rs.180 million.

The hospital is catering to the needs of population of Western part of Maharashtra State, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts of Kokan and Some parts of Karnataka State. In effect the hospital serves a population of more than six million with a highly subsidized rates. Average OPD of tne hospital is around 1000 per day and occupancy is more than 95%.


Student Profile

The Medical College attracts students not only from various states in India but also from outside the country. The Medical College is a self-financed private institution with a track record of two decades and its academic performance testifies to its excellent academic functioning and has enormous potential to grow.
 
MCI Recognised & Affiliation

The Medical College is recognized by Medical Council of India for undergraduate and post graduate programmes. The name of the college is already included in WHO directory. During its formative years the college was affiliated to the Shivaji University, Kolhapur and from June 1998 it came to be affiliated to the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik. Now the College has become a Constituent College of the D.Y. Patil University, Kolhapur.
 
Infrastructure

The building houses laboratories for non-clinical subjects, Classrooms, Seminar Halls, Auditorium, Administrative block, Students amenities center, library etc. The laboratories are equipped with sophisticated equipments. The cost of equipments and furniture is Rs. 52.3 million.


 

The Academic Performance of the Medical College


The success rate of the final years MBBS students in the University examinations has always been more than 95%. It is the matter of great pride that the students of this college always Shine in the top rankers. The Maharashtra University of Health Sciences has placed this Medical College as the third best in the state of Maharashtra in terms of its overall achievements.
 
Library

The Library is the nerve centre of any educational institution. The Medical College has more than eleven thousand volumes of different disciplines in health sciences and subscribes to 165 Indian and International journals. The total cost of collection is Rs. 50 lacks. In addition to this, the college also subscribes to 120 e-journals.

The Library has four reading rooms with sitting capacity of 200 throughout day and night. Library services are available to the students from 8.00 am to 9.00 pm. Recently the reading room has been renovated to provide better academic atmosphere. In addition to the central library, each department has its own Departmental Library. The central library has been provided with internet facility and students and the faculty have open access to this facility.
